CHALLENGING EAR KELOIDS
This is a 31-year-old male with bilateral earlobe keloids who presented to us in May 2012. This young gentleman had his ears pierced in 2003. Keloids started forming at the sites of piercings and became rather sizable over time. He had his FIRST surgery in 2005. Keloids regrew after surgery. He had steroid injection. The SECOND surgery was performed in 2010. Both keloids again regrew. He presented to us for treatment in May 2012 when the following images were obtained.
We discussed the nature of keloid disorder and advised him to be treated with cryotherapy. He underwent one course of treatment to his left ear but unfortunately did not adhere to the proposed follow up the treatment plan. Instead, he chose to undergo a THIRD surgery. As expected, both keloids regrew and this time he presented to us in November 2014.
Once again, we discussed cryotherapy and treated his left ear. After this treatment, the patient did not return for follow up until May 28, 2015, at which point his keloids had both increased in size as seen in the images below.
Again, we discussed his treatment options and reviewed the course of treatment with cryotherapy and the need for proper follow up treatments. He agreed to this plan and his cryo treatment was applied to the keloid on his right ear. We will (hopefully if he returns) post follow up images in the next few months.
