Keloid Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy drugs are medications that are used in treatment of cancer. Some anti-cancer drugs such as 5-FU and Bleomycin have been studied and shown to have some efficacy in treatment of keloids. Although the published reports of both drugs indicate to significant activity for each drug, Dr. Tirgan’s personal experience with both drugs has been somewhat disappointing.  Being a medical oncologist, Dr. Tirgan is very familiar with all these drugs.  He uses different chemotherapy drugs, that are not only safer than Bleomycin, they are significantly more effective.  In treating keloids with chemotherapy drugs, a very low dose of the drug is injected inside the keloid tissue. Chemotherapy drugs have to potential to attack and kill the cellular infrastructure of keloid lesions.
