When using anti-cancer chemotherapy drugs for treatment of keloids, Dr. Tirgan follows
Chemotherapy drugs are medications that are used in the treatment of cancer. Some anti-cancer drugs such as 5-FU and Bleomycin have been studied and shown to have some efficacy in the treatment of keloids. Although the published reports of both drugs indicate significant activity for each drug, Dr.Tirgan’s personal experience with both drugs has been somewhat disappointing. Being a medical oncologist, Dr. Tirgan is very familiar with all these drugs. He uses different chemotherapy drugs, that are not only safer than Bleomycin, they are significantly more effective. In treating keloids with chemotherapy drugs, a very low dose of the drug is injected into the keloid tissue. Chemotherapy drugs have potential to attack and kill the cellular infrastructure of keloid lesions.
